Riva Dermatology Procedure After Care Instructions

POST-OPERATIVE CARE (BIOPSY / SURGICAL SITE CARE)

  • Keep bandage clean, dry, and in place for the first 24 hours 
  • After 24 hours, gently remove the bandage (shower can help loosen it) 
  • Clean daily with mild soap and water, then pat dry 
  • Apply Vaseline or Aquaphor and cover with a clean bandage 
  • Avoid antibiotic ointments (Neosporin, Polysporin, Bacitracin) unless instructed 
  • Avoid soaking the area (baths, pools, hot tubs) until fully healed or stitches are removed 
  • Limit heavy activity for the first few days to avoid bleeding or stress on the wound 
  • For bleeding, apply firm pressure for 15–20 minutes without checking the site 

Call the office if you experience:

  • Bleeding that does not stop with pressure 
  • Increasing redness, swelling, or pain 
  • Pus or drainage 
  • Fever or worsening symptoms

SKIN BIOPSY AFTERCARE

  • Keep bandage on for 24 hours (or as directed by provider) 
  • After removal, gently cleanse daily with soap and water 
  • Apply Vaseline or Aquaphor and keep covered with a clean bandage 
  • Avoid antibiotic ointments unless instructed 
  • Keep the area moist to promote healing and reduce scarring 
  • Do not pick or allow scab formation 

Results:

  • Typically available in 7–14 days 
  • Results will be released through the patient portal 
  • Our team will follow up if further discussion or treatment is needed

LIQUID NITROGEN (CRYOTHERAPY) AFTERCARE

  • Treated areas may sting, burn, or become red and swollen 
  • A blister may form; this is normal 
  • Dryness or crusting can last 7–10 days 
  • Pinkness may last several weeks to months 

Care instructions:

  • Wash area gently; normal showering is allowed 
  • Do not pick or pop blisters 
  • Apply Vaseline or Aquaphor if area becomes dry or crusted 
  • Ice packs and OTC pain relievers (Tylenol or ibuprofen) may be used if needed 
  • Makeup may be used once skin is intact (no open areas) 

Call the office if:

  • Severe pain or worsening redness 
  • Signs of infection or drainage 
  • Any concern about healing
